RLSS Commonwealth has announced that the Commonwealth Festival of Lifesaving will return in 2019, with RLSS UK selected as host for the event.
Taking place in Leeds from the 21 – 23 November, 2019 will be the second year the event has been run in its new format, combining the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships and Commonwealth Lifesaving Challenge.
The inaugural Festival was held in Durban in 2017, with competitors and volunteers attending from England, Scotland, Canada, Mauritius, Hong Kong and South Africa.
The Festival aims to encourage participation and development of amateur and experienced competitors, volunteers and officials, as well as bringing the Commonwealth lifesaving family together. Open to all Commonwealth nations, the Festival includes individual skill elements, a non-competitive sports development section, alongside more traditional pool lifesaving events.
The proposed schedule has the event running over three days including both individual and team competition categories:
