Cameron Eglington has been appointed as National President of Royal Life Saving Society – Australia.
Cameron is the President and a member of Royal Life Saving Society - Western Australia, as well as a trainer with the organisation. He is currently a Lecturer in The School of Education Health and Physical Education at Edith Cowan University, Perth WA.

His skills and vast experience in education, training, and management will be a valuable asset to Royal Life Saving, and we look forward to having his guidance on our organisational objectives."
Cameron said he feels very humbled to be elected as National President.
“Together we will work towards the vision of Royal Life Saving to make our nation free from drowning, and lead water safety and drowning prevention initiatives internationally to develop greater knowledge, skills, and practices in, on, and around water,” said Cameron Eglington.
Over the course of the last few years, Cameron says he has had the opportunity and in many respects the privilege of working across some diverse geographical and social-economic regions of Australia. His highlights include:
Working as Assistant Principal of Mount Barker Waldorf School and managing the Outdoor Education, first aid and aquatics training of the staff and students
Running water safety for a multisport marathon through the Katherine Gorge on the Katherine River – Nitmaluk.
Working with local indigenous communities in NT to teach children swimming and lifesaving skills as well as first aid and resuscitation training.
Working with local teaching staff in Karratha to improve education and training on the coast of the Burrup Peninsular at Hearson’s Cove and in the local waterways of Dampier and Point Samson.
Running a survey to develop an understanding of the needs and skills required to minimise drowning rates in the Australian Muslim Community following the tragic death of a young Muslim man in the Swan River in 2017. Following this, The Australian Islamic College was able to set up community network opportunities with Belgravia Australia, Belmont Aquatic Centre and Royal Life Saving WA.
“After spending time in regional Australia, I have a drive to see improved opportunities for all Australians to be competent in waterways beyond the cities. It is really an imperative that swimming as a sport, recreational activity and ongoing healthy activity is a skill that all Australians can achieve,” said Cameron Eglington.
Cameron said reducing drowning deaths of at risk community groups is a particular focus for him.
“Too many visitors to Australia are finding themselves in difficulty in on and around waterways and we need to all be committed to reducing this risk of drowning,” said Cameron Eglington.
Cameron takes over from Pene Snashall who has served as National President since 2015.
“I wish to thank Pene for her dedicated work as President, providing ongoing guidance and support. She has been a passionate advocate for the work of Royal Life Saving and we’re pleased to have her continued support as Deputy President,” said Justin Scarr.
Pene will remain on the board of directors as Deputy President, and continue her leadership as President at Royal Life Saving Society – Tasmania.
