Life Saving Victoria Awarded at International Water Safety Summit

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) was presented with an ‘Excellence in Boating and Water Safety’ award from the US National Safe Boating Council at the International Boating and Water Safety Summit in the USA recently.

LSV General Manager – Education and Sport, Kate Simpson attended the summit, which is the premier event in the USA for training, education, awareness, meeting, and networking for professionals, volunteers, and anyone involved in boating and water safety.

“It was an unexpected and exciting bonus to accept the award on behalf of LSV, which recognises the innovative work we have done in the space of boating and water safety,” says Kate.

LSV was represented in a keynote panel session at the summit, alongside US Sailing and outdoor education group Kalkomey that explored the ‘Evolution of learning for boaters and water users’.

“The panel discussion was thought-provoking, with discussion centred around why our organisation has embraced technology for education, the impact of using technology on learners and teachers, challenges with using technology, the ‘what next’ and addressing the sceptics”.

Kate also demonstrated the use of the Googles Expeditions platform to provide water safety education, with delegates going on a virtual rescue mission with the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service.

“It was exciting to demonstrate LSV’s Virtual Reality resources which were received with lots of enthusiasm and interest by delegates”.

Further information on LSV’s Virtual Reality (VR) resources can be viewed at www.lsv.com.au/vr.
