A four-year-old boy who spent three minutes underwater and nearly drowned at a public pool in Sydney's west is very lucky to be alive.
A four-year-old boy who was found unconscious at a public swimming pool in Sydney's west is "very lucky" to be alive.
Emergency services were called to Ripples Penrith just before 3pm on Saturday after the boy was discovered unconscious in the water.
The boy had spent around three minutes underwater before he was pulled out by lifeguards, a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.
Paramedics treated the four-year-old, who was intubated and put into an induced coma and rushed to Westmead Children's Hospital.
"He was a very lucky boy because he resumed breathing on his own on the way there," the ambulance spokesman said.
"Our thoughts and wishes go out to the child and family involved," the council said
Craig Roberts, National Manager, Operations of Royal life Saving Society Australia said "this is occurring too frequently and is a reminder for all Aquatic Facilities to ensure active Supervision at all times".
